Nike Bauer Hockey Blades

What size hockey stick should I get? And if I should get a one or two piece stick?
I am in the middle of getting a senior or intermediate stick. I’m a freshman in high school and I am 5’3″ and 98 lbs. I have always used a two piece but I am not sure if I should switch to a one piece. I want to get a nike bauer vapor. Also, if anyone has any suggestions for a good stick and blade, that will also help. Thanks in advanced for your input.
Based on your size, I’d recommend going the intermediate route. If you happen to have big hands for your size or are determined to get a senior sized stick, make sure to go with the softest flexing option – that’s a 77 flex with a Vapor Sr. stick.
As for one-piece vs two-piece, the answer varies. You are looking at the high end of the market, so the added value of comparing a $100 one-piece (poor performance) vs the same $100 in a two-piece (better performance and much better value) does not apply.
In your situation, opting for a two-piece system provides you with
1) A product you’re used to. That should not be understated when you’re playing at a competitive level and are new to that level of play. If you keep everything the same, you can better focus on adjusting and thriving in a new environment.
2) If you haven’t settled on one pattern that you love. The flexibility of a two-piece allows you to experiment with different blades without the huge expense of investing in another high-end one-piece.
3) Value. As stated above, swapping a blade or shaft is less expensive than replacing entire sticks, so that will save you money, particularly as you continue to grow.
At the end of the day, if you continue playing at the high school level, you won’t have to live with a potential bad decision forever, anyhow. If you’re enamored by a one-piece, go for it. I’m sure it will get plenty of use and you’ll have a broader frame of reference to choose the next stick after this one.
As for models:
One-piece sticks are overproduced and closed out all the time. Try to hunt down a Vapor XXX instead of the higher priced – and not very different – Vapor XXXX. Retailers are also closing out any remaining One90 stock as Nike Bauer prepares to launch the new One95 at retail.
Two-piece sticks have taken a back seat to One-piecers, so deals can be found there as well. If you go with a tapered style system, look at Easton’s Synergy II systems or Warriors Dolomite 2 option. If you opt for a standard tip, try out Easton’s Z-Bubble with their Z-Core or Warrior’s AK27 blade.
Good luck.
